Hi i'm interested in anyone who knows about my surname as it's quite rare. I know for a fact there are not many of us around.

Welcome to the boards, I am sure that an answer will be forthcoming from someone.
What do you already know of your name - any areas or dates come to mind.
Family search only shows four by that name, all female and all in Liverpool, plus two in U.S.A.
The 1901 Census Decoder shows two girls in Liverpool in 1901 and none for any other Census.
FreeBMD shows 22 births, all bar one in Liverpool, 4 deaths all in Liverpool, and 13 marriages, again all in Liverpool. A surname that shows up often as a maiden name in the births is Matthews.
You can look at the scans on FreeBMD, up to 1935. As a matter of interest, there are no McHarron names in the 1935 Birth Index.
Paul.

Hi I am also a McHarron born in Liverpool. Though an uncommon name there are as Maureen points out still quite a few McHarrons around. I have been researching the McHarrons on and off for the last 20 years or so. As far as I have been able to work out all the McHarrons in the UK are the descendants of a Charles McHarron who was a mariner born in Nova Scotia. He appears in the 1881 Liverpool census. The first record of the name I have found so far in Nova Scotia is the granting of land to a Daniel McHarron in 1784. There is a reference to 2 other McHarrons in the USA as early as 1777. There are still McHarrons in the USA. The name has also appeared in Irish and Scottish records in the 19th century. The reason Matthews is a common maiden name in the McHarron tree is that Christina Matthews was the wife of Charles McHarron-the son of the one born in Nova Scotia. Christina and Charles had 13 children-one of whom was my father. I hope this helps for starters. Dena
