I am researching my family history. My Great Grandmother was named Margaret Jane Tipping. She was born in Toxteth Park in 1885. Her parents were Frederick Tipping (B.1865 d.1897) and Josephine Lezart (b. 1867 d.1925). She had a sister called Elizabeth (b. 1899 d.?). She was married to John Marshall Potts in St. Clement in Toxteth Park in 1915. She died on 29 May 1962 in Newsham General Hospital in Anfield. She resided at 140 Tunnel Road at the time of death. Does anyone have any information to pass on? All help gratefully received. Thanks Hippy Dippy

Hi Kimbodia, I don't recognise the christian names you mention but my grandmother was Martha Tipping. She was born 3/12/1894 at 14 Milner St. Her birth was registered in West Derby. Parents were John Tipping and Catherine (nee Macdonald) Martha's siblings were Edward, Margaret, Annie and Richard. Have you any of these names in your tree? I have not been able to trace my Tippings back beyond John (b1858) so I am wondering if he may be related to Frederick? Thanks Trisha

Hi Trish, no I'm really rubbish!!! These are the only names that I know, but on the 1901 census visting Margaret and her family is Fredericks' niece, Mary Jane Gundy from Everton, she was born in 1877.
I've not been able to trace a marriage between Tipping and Gundy as yet. Stating the obvious I know, but this has to be Fredericks' sisters daughter.
He first appeared on the 1881 census in Garston as an inn-keeper, he was 15 years old. I have no idea who his parents were.
That's probably no help at all!!! Like I said USELESS!!!

Hippy Dippy you really do have a scouse sense of humour ! I was only trying to help , can I ask ? do you have Josephine Tippings second marriage and family in Oldham in the 1901 census ?

If Crompton is in Oldham then yes I have that. Are you by any chance related to the Tippings? I can't find Elizabeth after the 1891 census. She just seems to have disappeared. My mum's cousin said that "Betty" was married with children. I've tried the GRO marriage registers and althought there are millions (slight exaggeration) of Elizabeth Tippings, none got married in Liverpool. I can't understand why she's not with her family on the census returns. Right Detective, get to work!!! Joking (not ;D) Hippy Dippy

Hippy Dippy, this looks like her in the 1901 census ( Sunday 31 / 3 / 1901 ) Surname transcribed as TIBBING, but on comparing the handwriting on other names it is Tipping. Dr Barnardos Home Ilford Essex. Elizabeth Tipping age 12 years Inmate Scholar born Liverpool. ( 1889 ) ( see 1891 census she is 2 years old )
