William FISHER was born in Chester, Cheshire about 1806. A shipwright, William moved to Liverpool where he married Mary Burns (see BURNS) on 7 July 1828 at St. Peter's Church in Church Street.
A daughter Mary Jane FISHER was born about 1829 and was baptised in the same church on 24 January 1830. At this time the family was living at New Bird Street, Liverpool.
A second daughter Elizabeth FISHER was born in late 1831 and was baptised on 14 June 1832. Elizabeth died in August 1832 aged just 9 months and was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery on 13 August 1832.
Twin boys John FISHER and Henry FISHER were born sometime between 3 April and 5 June 1833. There is no record of their baptism at St. Peter's Church and by mid-1841 the family had moved to 3 Bunbury Place, Toxteth Park.
Another daughter Ellen Elizabeth FISHER was born on 7 September 1837 at Mary's Place (possibly a mid-wifery) Heath Street, Toxteth Park. Little Ellen died aged 4, at 4:30pm on 22 June 1841 at the family home at 3 Bunbury Place, Toxteth Park.
By 1851 the family had moved to 29 Rock Street, Toxteth Park. Henry, now a book keeper, married Mary Ann Symes (see SYMES) on 9 September 1858 at St. Bride's Church in Percy Street, Liverpool.
William died of ascites or "dropsy" on 6 February 1859 at 25 Rock Street, Toxteth Park and was buried on 9 February 1859 in Toxteth Park Cemetery [Section J, Grave 69]. In 1861 Mary was still living at the Rock Street address.
Mary Jane FISHER married labourer Ishmael Williams (see WILLIAMS) on 8 May 1859 at St. Saviour's Church.
Mary FISHER died of cancer of the womb on 11 July 1863 at 49 Townsend Street, Kirkdale (home of her daughter Mary Jane) and was buried on 14 July 1863 alongside husband William in the Toxteth Park Cemetery [Section J, Grave 69]. Son John, now a brass finisher with the railway in Crewe, Cheshire was the informant.
The family of Henry FISHER continued to live in Liverpool until the turn of the century. He, and later son William Henry FISHER, born on 17 July 1859, found success in the timber industry which resulted in Henry moving his family to a large home at 15 Rodney Street, Liverpool. Another son Alfred FISHER born on 29 June 1862 became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons and lived in Mount Pleasant. Henry & Mary Ann's other children Emily FISHER born on 26 March 1861 married Louis Edward Anderson CB who rose to the rank of Surgeon-General RAMC and Frederick Edward FISHER born on 2 June 1869 became a Director of the Yeoward Bros. Shipping Line and lived much of his life in the Canary Islands off the coast of Spain.
Henry FISHER died of cirrhosis of the liver on 22 August 1883 at his home at 15 Rodney Street, Liverpool. His wife Mary Ann had died of cancer of the breast and liver two years earlier on 17 January 1881.
