Hi Ros, Thomas Edward Gibson was born 10/2/1863 in Richmond, Nelson, NZ. He married Mary Catherine McCarthy on 18/3/1885 at St. Marys, Kirkdale. Their children were Mary Ann b1866, Thomas Daniel 1888, Margaret 1890 (my grandmother), Agnes 1895, Elizabeth Victoria 1897, and George Percival 1898. They had 12 children but only six living in 1911. They lived in Leycester st. but moved to 35, Wilbraham St. about 1907. Thomas died at 42, Belmont Rd. on 18/2/1947 and is buried in Ford Cemetery. Mary died at 47a, Taylor St. on 31/03/1938 and is buried in Ford Cemetery. My connection is from Margaret (Peggy) Gibson(1890). She married James Scott McClaughlin on 5/8/1910. My father James Scott McLaughlin was born 2/4/1912.
Please get back to me and I can give you some more info.
Best Regards
Jim McLaughlin

Hi Ros
Just an update. Thomas Gibson was not born in New Zealand. Why he put that on the 1901 census is anybody's guess. He was born 1863/4 in Sunderland as per the 1911, although on that he says he is an American citizen! Father Edward Gibson.
He was a merchant seaman and on 12/7/1889 he was on the Aurania out of Liverpool. The crew sheet has him born 1864 in Sunderland. His marriage in 1885 aged 21 has him a seaman and also his daughter Margaret's birth certificate in 1890.
Regards
Jim
