I am currently tracing my grandfather and his family - my father Charles James Goldring born Oct/Nov/Dec 1903 in Toxteth Park, apparently the son of Charles James Goldring and possibly Susan Edwards - married St. Edwards, Toxteth Park 1894. Should anybody come across any info relating to the family I'd love to hear from you. Currently trying to obtain the GRO number for my grandfathers birth certificate to apply to have a copy but as I'm not in the UK don't know if this is possible. Sincere thanks

There is no problem with being abroad. All you need is the GRO Reference number.
A visit to the GRO website should help.
Your father's birth reference is - December quarter 1903 Toxteth Park 8b 197
For your grandfather's marriage March quarter 1894 - Toxteth Park 8b 350 (it is the only one listed). There are two Susans listed - Edwards and Sumners
Do you have a birth cert for your father? It should give your mother's maiden name. Your grandfather's marriage cert would give his father's name and this would be a reference point for the birth certificate.
Here is a possibility if your grandfather was born in the same area.
March quarter 1871 - Goldring Charles James W. Derby 8b 295
Hope this is of some help.
Paul.

I made an error in my original posting - in fact he was my grandfather and NOT my father - typing error. Apologies - I didn't have much to start with. Thank you for your input.

No problem with the typing area, the number of times I post a message and then have to go back and edit it is unbelievable.
I take it then that the elder Charles is your Great grandfather.
Paul.

Thought I'd write to you because of the surnames Golding and Sumners which appear in a post from pps. In 1806 an Elisabeth Sunner married Isaac Golding - the name Sunner often appears as Sumner. I don't know whether Elisabeth & Isaac had any children, however, the name Golding appears down the line in various branches of the family - including a Mary Goalding Sunner in 1835 and a Mary Golding Kay (my branch of the family) in about 1840. I don't know anything about Isaac Golding - I just noticed that his name is carried through several generations of the Sunner family.
It may come in useful when you get that far back - families did often inter marry.

I have now managed to obtain all the birth certificates and am now starting to put together the family - thank you all.
