Hey there:
This may be a long shot, but I was looking for some information about a man by the name of John Johnston. It is either spelled that way or Johnson or Jonston.
Johnston was arrested for stabbing a man in 1850 in what is now Hawthorne, NJ (then called Manchester). Anyway, he killed a Judge John Van Winkle on Jan. 9, 1850 and Johsnton was executed in Paterson, NJ on April 30th, 1850.
Johnston was said to be from Liverpool, but that is all the information I have on him.
I was wondering if his name would appear on any ship manifests or if maybe a Liverpool Newspaper of the day may have some information.
Hey if you can help out, please drop me a line at donsmith1974@yahoo.com.
Thanks!
