My dads family LONG came from Tipperary/Killkenny to live in the Scotland Rd area of Liverpool about the 1860's. Anyway I am looking for anyone who new or remembers my grandparents and family. George Long(1907-1949) married Eileen Rainford(1908-1945) in 1935. George had several jobs including hotel waiter, plumber, labourer and bar man. He worked and lived at the pub in Low Hill of Prescot St in the late 1930's and his first son was born George was born there in 1937. Eileen Rainfords mother Annie and father William Rainford possibly owned a shop next to it (Pawn brokers, Clothes?). George, Eileen and son moved to 12 Chapel Place and lived there until 1949. They also had children Ann, James, John and Robert. My grandfather George came from a large family and was close to his brother Henry known as Harry, he married Caroline Muldoon. Harry and George sang and entertained in the pubs of Scotland Rd and also in the Isle of Mann. In 1945 my grandmother Eileen died at Christmas during childbirth, her baby Mary died a few days later. The children remained with George until 1949 when he died. They went into St Edmond's children's home except for Ann who went to live with her gran Annie Rainford who by now was a widow and bringing up Eileen's first daughter Florence from before her marriage to George. Annie passed Florence off as her child. Please get in touch if you know anything or have any questions for me.
