Hi all,
My G-G-Grandfather was John Patrick MCKENZIE. He was born in Glenurquhart, Inverness, Scotland on the 3rd June 1827. He married Eliza SCOTT on the 13th December 1860 at The Free Church of Scotland Glenurquhart. He died on the 20th March 1884.
He had six children with Eliza. He was widowed and remarried by 1877 and had another three children to his second wife.
On the 1881 census he was listed as being a Meal Miller, living and working at Wester Aberchalder, just south of Loch Ness. I visited the Mill last year. It has been converted into a house, but still has a lot of the original features.
Three of his children, from his first marriage, came to Liverpool a few years after the 1881 census was taken.
William MCKENZIE came first. He ran a pub called 'The Heart of Midlothian' 32 Gt Charlotte St and 11 Deane Street Liverpool from 1885-1890.
Jane Eliza MCKENZIE, my G-Grandmother, and her sister Christina (Tiny/Teenie) MCKENZIE followed in approx 1883 and lived with and kept house for William.
Both William and Christina were present at Jane Eliza's wedding in 1889.
William died on the 4th Jan 1890 aged 27. We don't know if he married or had any children yet.
Christina married Anthony SEDGEWICK in 1903 and died in Sefton General Hospital, 126 Smithdown Road, on the 29th November 1931.
When Jane, Eliza and Teenie came to Liverpool they could only speak the "Gaelic". According to my Grandmother, her mother Jane, did not know how old she was or when her Birthday was. William brought his bagpipes with him to Liverpool. The case survives to this day. Would love to be able to find someone else who had William in their tree.
