I am interested in the Martin family from Sefton (Sephton). William Martin was a gamekeeper born 1800, died somewhere between 1845 and 1851. He and his wife Elizabeth had six children Mary (christened in 1821), Thomas (1832), Esther (christened in 1824), Jane (christened in 1827), William (christened in 1830) and Hannah (christened in 1835).
1851 census - Thomas (age 18) is a blacksmith, his brother William (age 20) a porter, and his widowed sister, Mary Pemberton (age 30) is doing domestic duties. They are all living with their widowed mother Elizabeth (age 56) at 13 Primrose Hill in Liverpool, in the sub-registration district of Dale Street. Elizabeth is shown as a lodger and housekeeper.
Thomas married Martha Evans on 8th November 1852 in Manchester Cathedral. Their first child, christened Thomas but known later as William Thomas was born on 13th February 1859, in the cellar of 199 Bedford Street in Toxteth Park. Their second child James was born on the 16th March 1861 at 8, Court, Grafton Street in Toxteth Park.
In 1861, Thomas and his wife Martha are living in 2 St Stephens Court, Toxteth Park, ward of South Toxteth, in Liverpool.
On 25th December 1880, Thomas's son William Thomas Martin married Eliza Lewis. The marriage took place at St Philemon's church in Toxteth
In 1881, Thomas and Martha are living at number 1 Victoria Terrace in the municipal ward of Great George in Liverpool with son William and daughter-in-law Elizabeth (age 21) born in Liverpool.
