James O'HARA born 1893, son of William John O'HARA born in Ireland approx 1861 married to Elizabeth Jane EKBERY. Other children they had were - Bessie, Lillian, Hilda, William and John. in 1901 they were living at Bala Street, Bootle. William's occupation was dock labourer, but on earlier census returns he is listed as a shoemaker (as was my grandad James in later life).
If anyone is related I would love to hear from you, or can tell me where William John hailed from? I can't find the marriage of William and Elizabeth, tried Ancestry, free BMD, LDS etc.
Here's hoping, Annette

The name O'Hara is almost unique to Co. Sligo in Ireland. The name Ekbery would be unusual and would seem to me that she may have been from outside Ireland. Some of the O'Hara families of Co. Sligo would have very well recorded family histories. If I find other information I will post again.

O'Hara is a phonetic anglicisation of O hEaghra. The family clan descent from Eoghra, lord of Luighne (the modern Leyney) in Co Sligo, who died in 976 and who was himself, in the traditional genealogies, of the family of Oiloll Ollum, king of Munster. The O'Haras remain strongly associated with Co Sligo, where they were chiefs in two areas, O hEaghra Buidhe ('fair') around Collooney, and O hEaghra Riabhach ('grey') at Ballyharry, more properly 'Ballyhara'. In the fourteenth century a branch of the family migrated north to the Glens of Antrim and established themselves in the area around the modern town of Ballymena. There they intermarried with powerful local families and acquired great prominence themselves. Apart from Dublin, Sligo and Antrim are still the two regions where the surname is most concentrated."

William and Elizabeth Jane were married in 1884, registered in West Derby.
Ekbery is an unusual name because John Benjamin Ekbery (my G/G/G/G grandfather, and Elizabeth Jane's father) was born in Sweden about 1818. He married an Isle of Man woman named Elizabeth Fleetwood in Liverpool in 1851.
