Looking for any info on William ROBERTS b.abt. 1894 London and placed into orphanage in London with his sisters Elizabeth (Lizzie) and one or two others.
Their father's name(according to my grandparents wedding certificate) was Charles ROBERTS, Electrical Engineer deceased by 1916, when William married in Liverpool.
We have no knowledge of his mother's details or why she put the children into the orphanage.
William was sent onto T S Exmouth naval training ship when he was about 12 or 14 (this would be about 1907 ish) then later he joined the TA and in WW1 he was drafted into the Kings Liverpool Regt., and fought in France.
He returned to Liverpool in 1916 to recuperate from either illness or injury (not sure which) and married in Kirkdale. He returned to war and was sent over to France to fight.
In February 1918 he was discharged due to serious injury and returned to Kirkdale, to his wife and they settled down there. Later they moved to Bootle, Liverpool where they remained and brought up their children.
Around the mid 1950's a lady came up to Bootle, Liverpool to visit them. She was one of his sisters who had got the Salvation Army to trace him. We think her name might have been Jean or Jenny and the name/word Stains or Stain or something like that was mentioned.
This could have been her name or where she was living, we have no idea!
We have been looking for years both down in the London records office and through library records, and, latterly, on the internet but cannot find the family.
However, I have 'found' a family of ROBERTS children in a London orphanage in the 1901 census and they read as follows: Elizabeth 13, William 7, Ethel 6, Jenny 5, all born in Bethnal Green.
It's possible that this lady who visited was JENNY and was either married to someone with a name sounding like Stains or that she actually lived in Staines during the 1950's.
She never visited again so we don't know what happened but we do know that our grandparents did make at least 2 trips down to London or wherever over the years!
Does anybody have any connection with these children.
Are you descended from Elizabeth, Ethel or Jenny.
If anybody can help me to piece the puzzle together please respond. Hitting brickwalls for so many years with this one has very much disheartened me.
