Hello everyone! Due to the rarity of the name, I am asking for any connections. I would like the where-abouts of JOHN DOURAS born approx 1827, married or lived with Mary Jane Caldwell.who disappears off the census after 1881. (but I think that would take a miracle ) Thank you Elaine Pilkington

hi, my granmother was married to a Danny Douras, Liverpool. He said that Marion Davies the Hollywood actress who had a relationship with newspaper magnate Hurst was originally called Marion Douras and this might be interesting for you to reference. Hurst was the inspiration for the Orson Welles movie "Citizen Kane.." It was my granmother's 2nd marriage, Her name was Frances. They lived in Storrington Heys, Liverpool 11

Hi again. I asked a family member and she said Marion Douras aka Marion Davies, movie star was Danny's cousin. His uncle was Marion's father and as Marion was born in Brooklyn, presumably his work took him there. We could not remember this person's name but it was a J name. Joe was bandied about. Marion came to Liverpool once on a visitation but ironically Danny was out at the movies and missed her. As she must be well documented I do hope you find something that ties this up with the member you were researching. Marion was born in 1897 so maybe there is a census return with her father and further information. Danny died in 1982 and was in his mid seventies. He was an ex-sailor and had woked on the small tug boats that patrol the river. Good luck. I did not spell "Hurst" correctly. He was Randolph Hearst and I believe he was not pleased with Orson's representation of a fictional character who shared so many similarities with himself and threatened to sue. If you have seen the film you may remember the ending with Orson and a glamorous blonde rattling around Xanadu, the large modernistic house like two peas in an outsized pod. Hearst must be well documented also. "The yellow press" was a term used to describe his sensationalist publications. Regards Steve

Have a look at the 1900 United States Fedral Census for MARRION (Marion) Duras at the foot of the page. Her father is Bernard J Duras lawyer and he appears to have been born in New York, although his father appears to be from Ireland. They supposedly link in with the Liverpool family. There is still an active fan club for Marion on the net. Maybe they would know of the link. Try: Friends of Marion c/o Nick Longdon p.O. Box 8502, Citrus Heighs, CA 95611-8552 OR LOOK THE SITE UP ON THE NET. Happy Hunting, Steve

Hello Steve I am so sorry not to have replied sooner but life has a terrible way of biting you in the bum sometimes and I am just recovering from my time Danny Douras was my Grandmothers uncle and her mothers brother, small world. Maron Davies father was indeed Bernard Douras and his father was Daniel Douras who married in ireland to a miss McCann we think that this is the link but it hasn't quite reached reality yet although I have started working on it again Yours with great appologies Elaine
