The Tellet Family
My grt grt grandmother was Mary Tellet. Her father was a joiner (as were all the males). She was born in 1853 and lived in Allerton Road 1861. The family also lived in Prescot 1851.
Mary married Edward Jones in 1873 in Liverpool. He was from Holt Wales. They had about 8 children. Unfortunately Edward died in 1890 after falling under his horse and cart.
I've also traced the Tellet family back to 1841again living in Liverpool.
There's a Liverpool Gazetteer of 1825 and George Tellet's advertised as a Joiner living in Castle Street Liverpool.
Anyone help at all?
Eve

G'day Eve from a very hot South Australia. My name is Colin Tellett. George Tellett -shipwright-from Liverpool has a park named after him in Mosman NSW. Also George Tellett Gardens are in the Virgin Islands. George was my great great grandfather. Tillett Tellett and Tellet are all the same family. A George Tellett dob 1834 arrived by ship- the Lord Raglan on 1st June 1858,his occupation then was a joiner. Hope this helps

Hi. My name is David Tellet here in the Washington D.C. area. I'm not sure if I can help for that time period, but I can offer some later data. I'm glad to see that there are some other Tellets out there.
My grandfather was George Tellet from the Liverpool area. He was a chief engineer on the White Star Lines - the SS Celtic and others. He married Alice Hughes (one of thirteen) and had three sons: George Geoffrey Tellet, 1923, (my father, now deceased), Alan Tellet (died at age 13 in Hershey, Pennsylvania), and John Herbert Tellet, 1926, (my uncle, very much alive in South Carolina).
My brother, Alan was born in 1955 and me in 1958. My nephew, Christopher, is the last of us Tellets here.
My Uncle John did quite a bit of geneological research on our family and though he didn't have much luck in Northern England, he did, I believe, find a record of a John Tellet coming over from France to England in the 14 or 15 hundreds. I will look into this further if you want.
We also found a Tellet family in Puerto Rico who came from the Spain/France border area and said there are a lot of Tellet's there. I did find a small town in Spain named Tellet and I hope to try to visit there this June (I will be in Madrid for business).
Not sure if any of this helps, but I will keep digging if you want.
Warm regards David Litchfield Tellet

G'day David Thanks for your reply. The Telletts were Vikings according to the reference libraries. Back to Merseyside, places of interest-Telletts former Farmhouse in Bromborough has a datestone 1685. It's still standing to-day,by the Village Cross. The Clock Tower in Douglas on the Isle of Man was also erected by the Telletts. Jersey in the Channel Islands has Portelet. Good luck with your research. Colin PS I would be interested to know what else you uncover-the good, the bad and the ugly!

I'm really pleased to find a few Tellets here. I've been researching for ages. Anyway Mary Tellet married Edward Jones and I'm descended from them. I saw a programme recently on TV which said that people with unusual surnames are related. Also I found during my research that the name Tellet is Spanish for Tiler. Best wishes Eve

Warm regards David Litchfield Tellet Hello David I've worked out how to use this board (sent you an e mail). There are still quite a few Tellets on Merseyside. I've used the Census 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 1901. In the 1851 census I found my Grt Grt Grandparents living just a few minutes from where I live now in a place called Prescot. They appear to have moved around quite a lot probably following the work (Thomas was a joiner). Very best wishes Eve

G'day Eve,hello to David and family. Still hot here.Tommy Tellett was a boss in the engine shop at Cammel Lairds Shipyard. Eight Telletts served their apprenticeships at Cammell LAirds. Tommy was my great uncle. His son George was a well known Liverpool publican-one of his pubs was 'Dodds Vaults' that was close by Tate and Lyle,I think that's gone now.I took a print of the picture of the village in Spain named 'Tellet'. It's in a nice frame on the wall! Take care talk to you soon Colin

Hello Colin and David Sorry I've taken so long to reply. I've also traced the Tellets to Spain and possibly France. They were probably hounded out due to religious beliefs etc (Huguenots). A friend of mine also mentioned the Spanish Armada. Lots of Spanish sailors settled here (UK). I've traced my Tellet line back using documents to 1790's. There's also documents showing that an Alice Tellet lived on Merseyside about 1500s. I found a Tellet Farm over on the Wirral and details of the tenants engagement from a very old document. It's fascinating isn't it? David are you the writer David Tellet? Eve

G'day Eve and David I caught up with Barney- he's in his 90's now. Bit of an expert on the family. He reckons Mary Tellet came from Kirkdale but Mary is the most common girls name in the Tellet family. It's interesting that one family can have so many members involved with submarines.Frederick, Barney and Thomas were all O boat men. Ron and myself are the more modern boats. Barney reckons that the Telletts may have been Templars and later Knights of St John of Jerusalem. Good luck in your searches

Hello Elaine George was my great great grandfather. I think he was born on the ISle of Man. Thomas was his first George was his second. The family is full of Johns and Georges! I have traced the family to Castelletto, Italy. I don't know if David is still with us but if he downloads the Liverpool Echo and punches in Viking Boat I think he might be interested. Two Tellet women lost their husbands on the Titanic. One body was recovered and is buried in Kirkdale cemetry-not sure of the surname. The other one wasn't recovered but they lived in the Chester area. All the best Colin PS I go by what family members tell me and records. I can be corrected.
